Create Finland Passport Photo Requirements
Getting your Finland passport photo right the first time saves you a rejected application and a repeat trip to the photo studio. Below are the official specifications set by the Finnish Police, updated for 2026, followed by an easy way to create a compliant photo online.
Size and Format
- Print size: 36mm × 47mm (3.6cm × 4.7cm), the standard size used across Finland.
- Digital upload size: exactly 500 × 653 pixels. Even a single pixel off is rejected by the police photo server.
- File format: JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg), under 250KB.
- Age: the photo must be no older than 6 months.
Head Size and Position
- Head height (crown to chin, hair excluded) must measure 32–36mm, roughly 68–77% of the photo.
- Leave 4–6mm of space above the crown and 7–9mm below the chin.
- The face must be centered, with the head straight and shoulders squared to the camera.
Background
- Light grey, plain, and evenly lit with no shadows or patterns.
- No other people, pets, or objects visible in frame.
Expression and Appearance
- Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible.
- Glasses are allowed only if frames don't cover the eyes and there's no glare; dark glasses need a medical reason.
- Headwear is permitted only for religious or medical reasons, and it must not hide any part of the face.
- No digital retouching that changes your appearance.
Lighting
- Even, natural-colored lighting across the whole face.
- No red-eye, no overexposed or underexposed areas.
